The Styrian Court of Auditors was established in 1982 as a controlling body responsible for reviewing the Styrian Parliaments decisions and operations in hindsight to their legal, economic and fiscal effects in order to ensure the responsible and transparent management of public funds.

In 2015, the Styrian Court of Auditors initiated the CAF self-assessment process and the implementation of a comprehensive quality management system for all areas of the Styrian Court of Auditors. In 2018 and led by a new management team, the Styrian Court of Auditors subjected itself to another CAF self-assessment process. The Center for Public Administration Research (KDZ) was responsible the supervision of the process, which resulted in the development of a CAF Action Plan to enable the strategic implementation of improvements.
